Picture Story: Died to Young
The pictures of Kenis Green projected on a screen behind his casket showed a happy 12-year-old growing up.
A stark contrast his violent death, caught in the cross fire of a gunfight in Detroit on August 31, 2013.
Dressed in his favorite colors, red and black, many offered tearful reflections of the “quiet soul” at Elim Baptist Church in Detroit.
Rev. Henry Wells III challenged the audience: Find a way to end the violence. “What will we do to decrease this?” he asked, listing statistics about violence in the city and the number of young black men in prison.
"If we don’t fix it, if we don’t do anything different, then this could be us, " he said gesturing toward the casket.
